Success without selling your soul.

Success without selling your soul.

How do you avoid the stink of politics at work? Protip: You can't. The world runs on politics. This is not good or bad: it just is. It is up to you to figure out how to find the right words that won't pi… frustrate your boss. You have to engage your team in your work. You have to manage your reactions when dealing with idi… colleagues and customers. Whether leading or following you won't succeed by avoiding politics or by getting wrapped up in them. Success is usually found between these extremes where exercising ethical power and influence can drive good results. In this session we will explore Principles and Practices of Polite Politics, and begin to develop your political acumen - without selling your soul.

...Politely, of course.

  1. Experience a visceral acceptance that you are a political animal, motivated by loss and gain.
  2. Develop practical political practices to influence outcomes politely.
  3. Establish what you believe in and an ethical attitude to achieving those goals.

Kathleen Barret

Kathleen is the visionary leader of Business Analysis. She founded International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) in 2003 and led it until 2013. With no physical office this presented unique management and leadership challenges. She is writing two books: one on how to create, run, and sustain a virtual organization, and another called Polite Politics: Succeed Without Selling Your Soul. Businesses and conferences around the world invite Kathleen to present keynotes, instruct, and advise. She has worked with hundreds of companies as a consultant and as a leader in business analysis, with experience in financial services, telecoms, managing offshore software development, and product management.
